THE ARC JEFFERSON – ST. LAWRENCE EXPANDS SELF-DIRECTION AND FISCAL INTERMEDIARY SERVICES

The Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence (www.thearcjslc.org), a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties, announced the expansion of Self-Direction and Fiscal Intermediary services for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

“We have seen a growing need for Fiscal Intermediary and Self-Directed services. The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence has spent the last few years fine-tuning the process in Jefferson County and are now looking to expand in St. Lawrence,” stated Lynn Pietroski, The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are looking forward to this expansion to support more people with disabilities to achieve their goals.”

Self-Direction allows people with developmental disabilities and their families to have a higher level of control over their budget for services. Along with providing different choices, Self-Direction offers reimbursement for technology, classes, camps, etc. People may also purchase traditional services as part of the individualized plan.

Individuals involved with Self-Direction may choose to have an agency assist them or handle management themselves with assistance from a Fiscal Intermediary and Support Broker. The Fiscal Intermediary is a co-manager working with the person enrolled in Self-Direction. They assist the family with the hiring processes, regulatory compliance, staff training, payroll, and benefits.
