The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence (www.thearcjslc.org), announced that General Services Administration (GSA) in Region 2 was selected to receive the Federal Customer Award at SourceAmerica’s Xforce National Conference. This award honors a federal customer who has provided opportunities and support for the employment of people with disabilities through an AbilityOne contract for products or services.
“I am honored that the valuable relationship that our agency has with the team at GSA has been recognized on the national level,” stated, Lynn Pietroski, Chief Executive Officer, The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence. “This partnership of over 20 years would not be possible without SourceAmerica’s assistance and we appreciate their support to secure contracts that give people with disabilities gainful, community-based employment.”
GSA and The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence have provided meaningful, quality job options for approximately 80 people with and without disabilities in rural areas of upstate New York for more than 20 years covering the counties of Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Franklin, and Clinton on Janitorial, Grounds Maintenance, and Snow Removal Services. This contract has ten port locations throughout 150 miles of Canadian border and cleaning is performed seven days a week, 365 days a year.
“These ports are major crossing points for commercial vehicles and are some of the most heavily traveled border crossings in the Northeast,” said Elliot Doomes, Commissioner Public Buildings Service, U.S. General Services Administration. “Yet, these are some of the cleanest ports in the country thanks in large part to the partnership between GSA Region 2 and The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence.”
The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence nominated GSA Region 2 and specifically recognized team members Norm Gauthier, Adam Tisdale, Brian O’Connor, and Burton Weatherly for providing a welcoming work environment for people with disabilities. Their approachability and responsiveness creates a caring and respectful environment that helps everyone succeed.
